As China’s dual carbon goals advance, green office practices have become a straightforward way for companies to deliver on social responsibility. Nanjing Leading Chemical Co., Ltd. recently launched a Low-Carbon Office Week initiative to embed environmental awareness into daily workflows and make sustainability a standard part of workplace life.
The campaign targeted waste reduction first. The company rolled out digital approvals and paperless meetings across all departments, cutting monthly paper printouts by more than 2,000 sheets. Disposable paper cups and plastic straws were removed from pantries, and every employee received a branded reusable mug to encourage bringing personal drinkware—this single measure eliminated roughly 150 single-use plastic items in just one week.
Energy efficiency was another key focus. Office lighting was upgraded to smart systems that automatically power off when areas are unoccupied. Thermostats were standardized: no lower than 26°C in summer and no higher than 20°C in winter. Separate waste bins lined with biodegradable bin liners were installed, with admin staff hosting monthly training on proper waste sorting rules.
These small daily tweaks cut single-use waste by around 500 items and office paper consumption by over 2,000 sheets each month. Together, the two measures are projected to slash workplace carbon emissions by approximately 0.26 tonnes annually.
“Low-carbon office living is not a one-off event, but a long-term habit,” shared a participating staff member. Team members have shifted from following green rules reluctantly to embracing eco-friendly choices voluntarily. Moving forward, Leading Chemical will keep refining sustainable office practices and take consistent small steps toward a greener, low-carbon future for all.
